Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I train my dog?

Dogs need three essential things every day to live happy, balanced lives:

  • Physical exercise

  • Mental stimulation

  • Clear communication

Training provides crucial mental stimulation and establishes a clear line of communication between you and your dog. A trained dog can safely be given more freedom—and with freedom comes a happier life. Integrating obedience into your daily routine also helps prevent, manage, and even solve many common behavior issues.

What training methods do you use?

At Carolina Canine Training®, I use a wide variety of proven techniques tailored to each individual dog’s temperament, behavior, and your personal goals. I do not use a one-size-fits-all approach. Just as every breed is different, every dog is unique—even within the same breed. My programs are fully customized to suit both the dog and the owner.

How long will it take to train my dog?

Training timelines vary depending on the dog, the goals, and your consistency at home. Like people, dogs learn at different paces. Some pick up new skills quickly, others take more time—and that’s okay! The key is patience and consistency. I’ll help you stay on track and make training fun and rewarding for both of you.

Do you restrict training for certain breeds?

Absolutely not.
I work with all breeds, all ages, and all behavior types. Whether your dog is a misunderstood breed or has been turned away by other trainers, I’m here to help. No muzzles unless absolutely necessary—and even then, only as a temporary safety tool with proper guidance.

My dog is aggressive. Can you still help us?

Yes, I can.
Aggression can stem from fear, frustration, genetics, or lack of proper socialization—but it doesn’t define your dog. While all dogs are capable of displaying aggression, inappropriate or excessive aggression can usually be managed and, in many cases, significantly reduced or eliminated altogether. I’ll help identify the triggers, causes, and best course of action to modify the behavior safely and effectively.

When should I start training my puppy or new dog?

Immediately!
From the moment your new dog enters your home, they are learning. Starting early helps you create a clear set of rules and expectations that last a lifetime. I even offer pre-adoption consultations to help you select the right puppy or rescue dog based on your lifestyle and goals.

Will my puppy “grow out” of bad behavior?

No—they’ll grow into it.
What may seem cute or harmless when your puppy is small can become a serious nuisance—or even dangerous—as they grow. Unwanted behaviors don’t resolve on their own. Proper training ensures that your puppy learns what’s acceptableand what’s not—before small issues become big problems.
