Frequently Asked Questions

Why should i train my dog?

A dog needs three things on a daily basis to lead a completely happy and fulfilled life: physical exercise, mental stimulation, and communication.  Training your dog provides not only mental stimulation, but also opens up a line of communication.  Trained dogs are dogs that can safely be given more freedom, and therefore lead happier lives.  By using obedience training in your every day life, you can help prevent, solve, and manage many problems.

What training methods do you use?

The trainers at CCT are experienced in using a wide variety of techniques suited to each individual dog’s needs and owner’s preferences.  There are as many different temperaments as there are breeds of dogs.   We treat each dog as unique and recommend programs that best fit each dog and owner’s needs and desires.

How long will it take to train my dog?

Just as people learn at different speeds, so do dogs.  No matter what method is used to train your dog, it is nearly impossible to tell beforehand how quickly a dog will progress in training.  The key is in not giving up, but remaining patient and consistent.  By doing this you will allow the training to remain fun for both you and your dog.

Do you have any restrictions on training specific breeds?

No.  Any breed, any situation- we are here to help EVERY dog owner with whatever they are looking to do with their dog.  We have experience training all different breeds, including those that may have gotten a bad rap or may be required by other trainers to wear muzzles.

My dog is aggressive, can you still help us?

There are many types of aggression which may be exhibited by your dog.  While ALL dogs will naturally display aggression as a self-preservation mechanism, your dog may be showing aggression which is out of place, and unnecessary.  CCT trainers have experience modifying and controlling aggression.  In most cases it can be completely reversed, so that your dog can totally overcome the problems they have had in the past.  We will help you determine what is triggering your dog’s aggression, and what steps you can take to successfully manage it.

How early should I start training my new puppy/dog?

You cannot start too soon!  Every moment your dog spends with you they are learning something.  When you have just acquired a puppy or dog, you have the opportunity to set up the rules and boundaries that will govern the dog for the remainder of your relationship.  We can even assist you with choosing the best type of dog for your lifestyle prior to selecting a puppy or adopting a rescue dog.

Will my puppy “grow” out of unwanted behaviors?

No.  Your puppy is learning what the rules are, and what you teach them at a young age will stick for a lifetime. Puppies’ antics are adorable, but within a few short months those cute behaviors can become nuisances. Certain changes will occur as your puppy grows older due to developmental stages, however unwanted behaviors (which often start off seeming cute because your puppy is still too small to be destructive) won’t go away on their own.
